Are you having difficulty downloading files? Browser incompatibility is the most common reason files do not download.
    • Try downloading the files from a different computer.
    • Have someone else download the files from their computer.

  3. Download all of the standard quality MP3 files (A1ab1.zip, A1ab2.zip, B1aa1.zip, etc.). Right click on all of the standard quality MP3 audio links as shown. (Use the active links at the bottom of this page.)

Shortcut: if security permits, you may download the MP3 files directly from the mp3 folder itself or use the Download MP3 folder link from the Lesson Downloads page.

  4. Select Save Target As....

  5. Download all of the WMA audio files (ls1ab.wma, ls2aa.wma, ls2bb.wma, etc.). Right click on all of the A B audio links as shown. (Use the active links at the bottom of this page.)

          index.html

  8. Choose how you want your CD to open.

  9. After all of the ZIP files are unzipped and placed in the selq folder, and you have added the MP3, and WMA files, the beginning section of your open selq folder should look like this (This is an incomplete list — there are approximately 800 files and folders in the selq folder),

    1. An important troubleshooting note regarding folder location. Each of the following folders must be removed from its zip folder and be placed in the open cdsell folder:
      • The folder address is in zfolders.zip.
      • The folder flag is in zfolders.zip.
      • The folder image is in zimage.zip.
If additional language images are required, they will be added as image2 (in zimage2.zip), image3 (in zimage3.zip), etc. (The folders image2, or image3 are not shown in the screen shot above.)
      • The folder logo is in zfolders.zip.
      • The folder txt is in zfolders.zip.
      • The folder info is in zfolders.zip. (The folder info is not shown in the screen shot above.)

    2. An important troubleshooting note regarding WMA and MP3 folders. In order to make smaller folders for downloading, complete WMA and MP3 folders were not provided. You may make your own WMA and MP3 folders.

    3. An important troubleshooting note regarding individual files. Each of the following files must be removed from the zip folder and be placed in the open cdsell folder:
      • All html and wma files from each individual lesson (such as zlesson1.zip, zlesson2.zip, etc.) must be removed from each of the 16 zlesson#.zip folders.
      • All studentinfo+language files (such as studentinfofrench.html, studentinfotagalog.html, etc.) must be removed from the zstudentinfo.zip folder.
      • All wmdiscovery+language and wmjourney+language files (such as wmdiscoveryamharic.html, wmjourneyczech, etc.) must be removed from the zfables.zip folder.
      • All individual files (and folders) in zworking1.zip, zworking2.zip, and zworking3.zip must be placed in cdsell.

  10. Your open mp3 folder should look like this (this is a complete list):

  11. Your open wma folder should look like this (this is a complete list):

To operate properly, your open CD should look like this:  rather than this:

  12. In order to link to the same text, both the standard quality and the high quality MP3 files carry the same file names (such as A1ab1.mp3, B2bb1.mp3, etc.). The sound quality, however, is not the same. This page describes the procedure for copying the standard quality MP3 audio files.

  13. To use your selq folder for uploading to your iPod™, MP3 player, or Handheld, open either the mp3 folder or the text folder from the Lesson Download link on the home page.

  14. This CD can also be used for English study on your computer. The same CD can be used in an MP3 disc player.

  15. We also encourage you to sell the CD for your own profit. See the Earn money link.

Troubleshooting:

  1. Almost all problems which result in a CD opening improperly — or audio and PDF files not opening — are the result of the files and folders not being placed in the appropriate folder. (See Help page 7 and Help page 8 for more information.) If individual folders or files do not open correctly, check to make certain that the files are in the correct folder. Also check to make certain that all folder and file names are spelled correctly. Make certain that all files contain the correct HTM or HTML designation. (Save Target As... may eliminate the "l" (L) from "html". You must add an "l" (L) to the extension if it was included in the original file name. In addition, Save Target As... may add a "[1]" indicating that it is "copy number 1" For example, the file name A1ab1.mp3 may become Alab1[1].mp3. Remove any "[1]"s ([one]) from file names.

  2. If you are making a CD which you want to automatically open, autorun.inf and launch.exc files must be included to automatically open the CD. If the launch.exc file will not download from the www.FreeEnglishNow.com website (http://www.freeenglishnow.com/zlaunch.zip), you may download a free copy from www.itshareware.com or www.nu2.nu. To assure compatibility, use both the launch and autorun files from the same download. If you use an autorun.inf file from the download, you must open it (double click on the file) and rewrite it to open the index.html file. For example, if you want to open on the index.html file, the autorun entry would read "[autorun] open=launch.exe "index.html"". Verify that the index.html copied correctly and not as index.htm. In order to link correctly, all web page extensions throughout the entire course should be html rather than htm.

  3. The CDs designed for the Spoken English Learned Quickly course fit on a standard 700MB disc. If your burner gives an alert that there is too much material, 1) make certain that the disc is empty, 2) make certain that you have not copied more material than is specified for that CD (you cannot combine material from both the Make a CD of the entire course and Make a high quality MP3 CD with text), and 3) make certain that you have not copied the same material twice as both a folder and files. (For example, if you try to put both the ZIP folder containing other files as well as the files themselves on the CD, there would not be enough room.) There should be no ZIP folders on your completed CD.

  4. If folders are missing (especially the two folders named WMA and MP3) or files are not opening, read the Troubleshooting notes above.
