-
Open a new folder on your computer. We suggest you call it ipod.
-
Right-click on each link you want to save in your ipod folder. (Use the active links at the bottom of this page.)
-
Select Save Target As....
-
Paste each link in the ipod folder on your computer.
-
When you have downloaded all of the lessons you want to save, open the ipod folder and create a new empty folder inside the ipod folder. You must title the new folder mp3.
-
However, all of the MP3 files downloaded from the high quality MP3 folders are ZIP files. They must be unzipped before they are placed in the mp3 folder.
-
Double click on the empty mp3 folder inside of the ipod folder. Leave the mp3 folder open.
-
Reopen your ipod folder by double clicking on it. It will again open with a view of the PDF files (ls1ab.pdf, ls2ab.pdf, etc.), the ZIP files (A1ab1.zip, A1ab2.zip, B1aa1.zip, etc.), and the mp3 folder. (You will now have both the ipod folder and the mp3 folder open simultaneously.)
-
To unzip the ZIP folders, double click on each. Each ZIP folder will open and expose an audio file. (For example, A1ab1.mp3, A1ab2.mp3, B1aa1.mp3, etc.)
-
Place all of the unzipped MP3 files in the mp3 folder.
-
After all of the ZIP files are unzipped and placed in the mp3 folder, your open ipod folder should look like this:
-
and your open mp3 folder should look like this:
-
Both the standard quality and the high quality MP3 files carry the same file names (such as A1ab1.mp3, B2bb1.mp3, etc.) in order to link to the same text. However, the sound quality is not the same. This page describes the procedure for copying the high quality MP3 audio.
-
If you want to limit the file size of the audio files in your iPod or Handheld, use the standard quality MP3 downloads from Copy single lessons for computer study.
-
You may also download the lesson files in TXT for your Handheld (PDA or smartphone). Click on TXT files.
-
To use your ipod folder for uploading, open the folder and click on the lesson you want to upload to your iPod, MP3 player, or Handheld. To upload the html or pdf text files, you will need to upload from the ipod folder below. To upload the corresponding audio files, you will need to open the mp3 folder from inside the ipod folder.
-
You may also use these files for study on your computer. Use of the high quality MP3 files gives better audio reproduction.

Almost all problems which result in a CD opening improperly or audio and PDF files not opening are the result of the files and folders not being placed in the appropriate folder. (See Help page 7 and Help page 8 for more information.) If individual folders or files do not open correctly, check to make certain that the files are in the correct folder. Also check to make certain that all folder and file names are spelled correctly. Make certain that all files contain the correct HTM or HTML designation. (Save Target As... may eliminate the "l" (L) from "html". You must add an "l" (L) to the extension if it was included in the original file name. In addition, Save Target As... may add a "[1]" indicating that it is "copy number 1" For example, the file name A1ab1.mp3 may become Alab1[1].mp3. Remove any "[1]"s ([one]) from file names.

If you are making a CD which you want to have open automatically, autorun.inf and launch.exc files must be included to automatically open the CD. If the launch.exc file will not download from the www.FreeEnglishNow.com website, you may download a free copy from www.nu2.nu. After the zip folder has downloaded, you may open it and use just the launch.exc file. If you also need to use the autorun.inf file from the download, you must open it (double click on the file) and rewrite it to read "[autorun] open=launch.exe "[name of file].html"". For example, if you want to open on the index2.html file, the autorun entry would read "[autorun] open=launch.exe "index2.html"".

The CDs designed for the Spoken English Learned Quickly course fit on a standard 700MB disc. If your burner gives an alert that there is too much material, 1) make certain that the disc is empty, 2) make certain that you have not copied more material that is specified for that CD (you cannot combine material from both the Make a CD of the entire course and Make a high quality MP3 CD with text), and 3) make certain that you have not copied files (or folders) twice.
