Formatting instructions
This website supplement was formatted using a simple CSS page to add color so that it can be easily added to your website. It was designed to be as simple as 1‑2‑3‑4. First, add your own website header to the index.html page. Second, reset the background color and margins for all 357 pages from the single web.css file. (The background color on this ISO IMAGE or CD was purposely set in a blinding yellow, assuming that you would change it to match your website background color.) Third, add links on your present website to English lessons, Free English lessons or something descriptive in the language of the principle website users. Fourth, upload the entire selq (Spoken English Learned Quickly) folder to your website and you will have a new English language course for your viewers.
You may download the entire contents of this website supplement by downloading an ISO IMAGE file. You may add the material directly to your website or burn it on a CD. Download FreeEnglishShortA2.iso (321M) and place all of the files and folders in a new selq folder you create.
The FreeEnglishShortA.iso file
contains all of the HTML pages and the complete MP3 files for
the American accent
audio. We encourage
you to also download FreeEnglishB.iso
(283M) which contains all of the MP3 files for the British
accent
audio. Place all
FreeEnglishShortA.iso and FreeEnglishShortB.iso
files in the new selq folder.
If you received this material on a CD, download the entire selq folder from the CD to your computer. (You will not need the autorun.inf and launch.exe files which are outside of the selq folder. They were only used to open the CD.)
If you have an HTML Editing program, use it to add your website header to the index.html file. If you do not have an editing program, you can make the changes on the NOTEBOOK page which is a part of every webpage. From inside the selq folder:
Make a copy of the index.html file for backup. Discard the Copy of index.html when you are finished.
Open the index.html file directly on your HTML editor.
To work in NOTEBOOK, click on View, then click on Source.
Work in the open NOTEBOOK (Source) file. Save to check results or to exit the finished file. (HINT: you can view changes as you make them by clicking save on the NOTEBOOK file and then clicking REFRESH on the open index.html file.)
Add your header on the Home Page. (This step is done from inside the open index.html page in either your HTML Editor or the NOTEBOOK page.)
HINT #1: Open your header on line and copy it in HTML code from the website. From the menu bar, click View and then Source. Copy everything in HTML code which describes the header. Paste the "copy" in this space. You will then need to copy all of the images identified in the <img src=""> tags from the website. Copy all of the needed images from the image folder if the header images are located in a folder.
HINT #2: The simplest way to copy an image from an open website is to right-click on the image and choose SAVE PICTURE AS. Paste the image in a new image folder in the selq folder.
HINT #3: If you cannot access the image or its folder, you can copy them by using the Alt + PrtSn keys to copy the open website header. You will then need to crop the images in a graphic program (such as Adobe Elements) and label them so they will work in the header.
HINT #4: You can also copy the entire header by using the Alt + PrtSn keys to copy the open website header. Crop the header image in a graphic program (such as Adobe Elements) and label it as a gif or jpg image. Create a <table> for the header and insert the header image in a <img src=""> tag. If you use this method of producing your header, you will undoubtedly need to use a <table> to create borders and other features in the header.
HINT #5: All image and image folder names must be exact. For example, if you have an image named "logo.jpg" on the header, and that image is in the "images" folder, then your image tag must read <img src="images/logo.jpg">, and the folder images must be in the selq folder.
Add your Contact us links to your header.
Add any necessary graphic files or image folders to the selq folder to support your header.
HINT #6: Because visitors speaking so many different languages use the parent website, it is more functional (but less artistic) to put all of the language scripts on the Home Page rather than using drop-down menus. (Have you ever tried to use website drop-down menus in an alphabet you do not read? It is next to impossible. Many of our visitors would have the same difficulty.) However, if you are limiting your website to a single (or small number) of countries, we encourage you to add a link in your header including that (those) languages if it (they) are listed on the Home Page. The link would then read INFORMATION FOR THE STUDENT in whatever language(s) you select. You would simply copy the appropriate link(s) from elsewhere on the Home Page and insert it into your header. It would look like this
:| A link written with an alphabet = <a href="studentinfoczech.html">Informace pro studenta</a> = Informace pro studenta A link reproduced in graphics = <a href="studentinfochinese.html"><img src="info/infochinese.gif" alt="" align="absbottom" height="16" border="0"></a> = |
To copy the link from the Home Page, use the language name and the control find function.
However, the graphic links were produced on the parent Home Page in order to compensate for the lack of those specialized fonts on international computers. If you are producing a link in your header for a local language, you should be able to write the link using a local font which would be readable on computers in your area.
Open the web.css file and change the background color number ( background-color: #FFFF80; ) or image ( background-image: url(imagename.gif); ) to suit your preference.
The font color is presently set in black as { color: #000000; }. Because of the layout of the pages, we suggest that you continue using black as the font color and that you use a background color which contrasts well with black. However, you could change the font color by altering any one of three "formatting" terms in the "selector". If you wanted a red font, you would use one of the three formatting terms: FONT COLOR = { color: red; } or { color: #FF0000; } or { color: rgb (255, 0, 0); }.
You will certainly want to change the background color. Again, you can specify it as: { background-color: white; } or { background-color: #FFFF80;} or { background-color: rgb (149, 205, 145); } . You can also specify a background image using a gif or jpg image as: { background-image: url(imagename.gif); } Follow this syntax exactly, changing only the word(s) "imagename" and "gif" if it is to read "jpg". HINT: You will find the present background color of your website on either an HTML page or in a CSS file for the website itself. As an alternative, you can paste a screen shot (Alt+PrtScn) of your website in an art program (such as Adobe Elements) and use the eyedropper tool to determine the color.
The margins are set by altering the "em" number. They are presently set at one em (1em). Make the change and save, then refresh the page to view the effect on your pages.
See www.w3.org and www.tizag.com for more CSS formatting information.
Place your new index.html file with your header (and accompanying image folder, if required) inside the selq folder. Double click on the index.html file to verify that everything works correctly.
This format.html file will no longer be necessary. You should delete it before uploading. If you created a Copy of index.html file in the selq folder as a backup while you were creating your personalized header, you should delete the Copy of index.html version as well. Please also delete the ZZ‑header_example.jpg used for the example in this page.
Pronunciation exercises in
these lessons are taken from Acts chapters 1 through 9
(excluding chapter 7). (To see the complete Pronunciation
Exercise for this lesson, scroll to each subsequent page
using the
link.) There is, however,
no sectarian content. Any further explanation of the Gospel
would come from your own website if you wish to include it.
You may wish to design follow-up page links into your header
to include this function on your website.
HINT: to accommodate additional links, you may wish to add a link bar under your Home Page header for this purpose. You may, of course, put any of your own linked pages inside of the selq folder on your website. The intent of the statement in the terms.html page excluding additions or alterations is specific to only the original selq files. For the ease of your own website, your own follow-up and contact us pages may be placed in the selq folder.
Create English Lessons tab links (or a similar name in English or another language) on your website. The link will access index.html in the selq folder on your website. The link must read <a href="selq/index.html">English Lessons</a> identifying the selq folder in your root folder.
Upload the entire selq folder to your website root folder. It is 321M plus the British accent files (283M) from the FreeEnglishShortB section.
All META files were deleted from the HTML pages and may not be restored. This was done in order to prevent search engine penalties for mirror websites to both FreeEnglishNow.com and other websites using it. (It could penalize your own website for the same reason.)
On the other hand, aside from the increased activity from the English lessons, this website may bring substantial search engine activity to your website for another reason. Two translators (Yahoo and Google) are linked on 350 of this website's HTML pages. The translators are certainly on the pages because they serve a useful purpose to those studying English. But they are also on the pages because both Google and Yahoo search engines respond favorably to their proprietary links on other websites.
